Week 1: Making our House a Home | the Kitchen

Week one consisted of a lot of dust and a house overtaken by appliances, dishes and extension cords – its been pretty awesome. Everyday we uncover a new secret and learn more about the house. So far we have discovered that since the 1950’s, when the house was built, there have been five different types of flooring, three different wall finishes and three cabinetry changes. And yes…it is all coming out! We have learned that they really did build things better ‘back then’. All of the cabinets were built in place, which means they have to be removed one plank at a time.

We openned up and reframed the entryway from the dining room to the kitchen. We can’t wait to see its full impact on the space when it starts to come back together.

We had a little extra help from another Crum over the weekend and were almost able to complete demolition. One more cabinet and a few more walls until we are finished! Everything has been running pretty smoothly except for the hundreds of screws in the existing tile backerboard which all have to be removed by hand.
